Tour was a delightful journey through flavors, expertly guided by Goran, whose personal stories of growing up in the city added a heartwarming touch. We enjoyed local dishes perfectly paired with good wine.
I participated in similar events in cities like Athens or Lisbon. This one was by far the worst. Our guide was very friendly and the restaurants we visited were good. BUT: This was not a culinary tour! We learnt almost nothing about Croatian food culture and had to ask questions ourselves in order to get any information on what national dishes there are, how they are prepared, etc. The portions were small and we were still a bit hungry by the end. Our guide frequently disappeared and never enquired about whether we wanted to eat more. Also, the wine tasting experience as part of the tour was extremely poor. We tasted only two mediocre wines and were given in 5 minutes some hints about Croatian wine varieties. There was no real presentation. We never tasted any traditional Croatian desserts (only Italian ice cream). No coffee or tea was offered as advertised.
From the start we got energy and warmth from our guide, Goran. The first stop starts strong and Goran is a master of bringing everyone together, while also making sure he’s not intrusive to the experience. Delivering Rakija, tapas and wine, the party began! Next up was a short walk in the rain that nobody minded! Black risotto, shrimp, pasta, etc and of course more wine awaited us and we weren’t disappointed! More than enough of everything and we were loving it all. Then onto a lovely wine tasting with stories of Croatian wine history - more than 130 grape varieties native to the region! Lastly the night was capped of with the best ice cream in town. Our guide, our company, the food the drinks… It’s a perfect activity to experience the region and pomalo… relax.
