The platform is really great: lots of programming languages to experiment with, great puzzles, rewards for doing so and the opportunity to discover companies and get in touch if you have a common interest. The team is always happy to help with technical problems.
I got this website through an advertisement on Instagram. Even though I'm not a software developer, I've been studying computer science for almost 5 years now and have occasionally taken a look at common coding challenge sites like Hackerrank, freeCodeCamp, but also IT-focused sites like TryHackMe to pass the time I am most impressed by this website so far and so far, no matter how long I look, I find little to no significant weaknesses on this website. To explain to all aspiring / studied programmers what this website actually is: It is a German business model that attracts companies that are looking for software developers as clients. Companies can upload tasks you select to the website, later read the submissions and contact programmers for job offers based on your criteria. In my opinion, there are two aspects that can still be improved on the website: 1. The entire website is in German and unfortunately the language cannot be adjusted in the UI. I sent my cousin the website and he had a few problems understanding it here and there. A function for changing the language would make sense, considering that you have clients who also have locations abroad and all the challenges are written in English. 2. One thing that annoys me a little per se: Companies can contact you if you have started the challenge but not yet completed it. This sometimes fills up the chat list very quickly and is also quite pointless. Why should a company hire someone if they haven't completed the challenge? However, these are only small things in comparison, overall the advantages outweigh the advantages immensely and therefore shape my 5-star rating. The aspects that I particularly like (as a programmer, not as an HR recruiter): 1. Coins: For each completed challenge you get a certain number of coins. The old ones bring 250 coins, while the newer ones start at 1000 for sometimes very easy tasks. 1000 coins are the equivalent of around 10 euros and, extrapolated from the processing time of some challenges, that's an hourly wage that makes even investment bankers look like low earners. 2. Wide range of tasks: Compared to Hackerrank and other such websites, which are mainly designed for competitive programmers, this website offers exciting insights into the real world of business with the tasks. You always learn something new: be it a programming task on Internet of Things devices, a task on IP tracking for the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, or tasks on calculating life insurance. I find this aspect particularly interesting because it offers a little variety to the classic invented programming tasks. You work with various technologies such as REST APIs, etc. and all of this via the web browser, it is brilliantly implemented. 3. Shop/Rewards: You can use the coins to buy various things in the shop, or donate the coins to Ukraine: I particularly like this aspect because the rewards are first-class. There are various vouchers for Nintendo, Google Play, etc. but the best are probably the e-books. You have to be quick and patient to buy an e-book because each reward is limited, but if you save the coins you can buy useful resources. I have now bought two e-books worth 50 euros on the subject of programming in C and full-stack development and some of them go hand in hand with the challenges. In short: You program something here and there, get money for it and have the opportunity to invest your coins in things that deepen your specialist knowledge - or in other things that interest many computer scientists. Isn't that argument enough?
I've been on the website for over 2 years now. At first I was skeptical that it was one of those sites where you waste far too much time for far too few rewards and far too few challenges. But developer hero is different. Not only is there a huge selection of tasks in all possible languages, but it is also not that difficult to collect enough coins to get an Amazon, Google Play, Netflix or other voucher. Of course, the rewards aren't the only good thing about the site. There are also challenges sponsored by companies, which allow the company to have an anonymous conversation with you and make attractive job offers The platform has given me personally countless hours of engagement and joy in programming.
