Established in 1987 by Noel Sullivan, John East and Mike Owens, Prometal Industries started business in a shared workshop in Bromley, and over the years, has witnessed many changes in the Sheetmetal Fabrication Industry. In the early years, Prometal was predominantly a sheet metal jobbing shop, working with hand tools and manual equipment, and with an attitude that no job was too big or too small. This would often see a project being taken from initial design right through to site installation. An approach from NZ Telecom in 1989 with a requirement for a Seismically Rated Battery Rack, saw Prometal design a system that gained DSIR Certification, and with the growth that was taking place in the electronics industry in Christchurch at the time, the company was well placed to offer similar solutions to this rapidly growing industry sector. With the growing need to produce high tolerance parts in volume, 1992 saw Prometal install one of the first Laser Cutting systems in New Zealand, which in a very short time was running 24hr due to the versatility of manufacture that could now be offered to wider industry. Inhouse CNC Turret punching was soon added, along with Folding and Powder coating, as the company continued to keep pace alongside its growing customer base. The Christchurch Earthquakes in 2011 resulted in serious damage to the Bromley workshops, but a strong commitment from the Prometal team had the company up and running again within weeks. This allowed time to design and build a purpose-built facility in Harewood, which the company relocated to in 2013, and operates from today. John East, along with his partner Joanna, remain owners of the company, and in 2023 were proud to see the commissioning of the latest technology in Combination Punch and Laser-cutting manufacturing systems. Equipped with robotic sheet load and part unload, the system provides a high level of automation to provide an enhanced service to all industries, while retaining the confidence to say, “no job is to big, or to small”. With a dedicated team, a commitment to service and quality, Prometal welcomes all enquiries and strives to provide the best customer experience possible.

I'm working with Mark for about one year and it's been a great experience. Mark took time to get to know our business and industry to come up with a website design that matches our needs but more important the needs of our customers! He has been helpful and supportive in every way possible, hands on in the challenges we faced through the process and also very supportive in topics which went beyond they web design tasks. I recommend working with him within a heartbeat, you will never be disappointed.
