Great company!
Although interviews were well and professionally conducted the hiring process of overseas candidates is fundamentally flawed and I'll explain why. The company conducts all stages of the hiring process remotely but one final interview, which is conducted face-to-face in Prague or Paris. The company does not pay a candidate's expenses of getting to the place of a final interview. In my case I passed successfully all stages of the hiring process, was invited to the final interview with HR in Prague and passed it well (that is what they themselves told me afterwards in an e-mail). So, although all stages of the hiring process were successfully accomplished, I have got no offer from them. The explanation went like that - it is a citation from the e-mail : "The decision was actually down to the team not being in agreement. Our selection team needs to be in 100% agreement when offering a position to someone in Europe, as it's a huge step for all involved. As the team weren't all in agreement over your application, we couldn't progress to offer. Your in-person interview went well and there was nothing negative about it. We really enjoyed meeting you and learning more about you." So, based on the fact that all stages went successfully and therefore all interviewers were for giving me an offer, I assume that there was someone else in the selection team whom I have never met not personally nor online or by telephone and this person decided against my candidature. I asked them what was the reasoning of this person against giving me an offer but never received a response to that. Say this person saw a certain lack of technology used in the project they need a developer in. Then why did you ever progress a candidate to the face-to-face interview making him or her to invest a lot of money, moral efforts and commitment ? If you are ready to meet a candidate at the final interview with HR would not it be sensible to be already sure that you give an offer if the candidate does not fail the final interview ? I can only keep guessing the reasoning of them to refuse me as I have never had a response on that question. So, dear fellows overseas candidates, if you want to take a risk of putting a lot of efforts to go through stages of the interviews and tests, spend money to get to Paris or Prague and being denied an offer on no grounds at all, you can go ahead. Unless you live in these two aforementioned cities it could be very frustrating and disappointing experience.
I've worked with Studio Center on projects many times over my career, and was always very pleased! After going independent, there was a lesser need to hire voice talent due to the nature of my clients. When I was recently hired to do national TV and radio, I turned to Studio Center again, and they didn't miss a beat. In fact, it was an even better experience than I remember. In particular, I have to give props to account exec and casting director Adrienne Beyer who was a Godsend helping me work out a somewhat complex talent usage arrangement. You rock, Adrienne. Kudos also to Graham the engineer and Kwame our talent. You guys are amazing!
